Mr. Phil Jones was honored by the Dorchester County Council at their meeting May 4, 2015. Councilman George Bailey presented Mr. Jones with a resolution honoring him for his years of service. Mr. Jones is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He served as an officer in the U.S. Marines for 21 years attaining the rank of Major and received multiple decorations during his career including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star with Combat “V”, Navy Commendation Medal and Combat Action Ribbon. He served as Marine Barracks Commanding Officer, Naval Weapons Station in Charleston as his final assignment.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Hugo, Mr. Jones was asked by the Chairman of Dorchester County Council to establish the local Regional Emergency Operations Center for receipt and distribution of relief supplies and materials from across the U.S. and to coordinate volunteer efforts throughout the recovery operation. He has also served on numerous other boards and committees for Dorchester County and the Town of Summerville and helped establish the Charleston Regional Development Alliance.
