In order to vote in an upcoming election, residents must be registered to vote at least 30 days prior to each election (October 8th 2016). Precincts are open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on all Election Days.

Absentee Voting:

Qualified voters may vote absentee either in person or by mail.

There will be two locations for in-person absentee voting, one in St. George and one in Summerville. Upon arrival, you will complete an application and cast your ballot. Please note, photo ID is required to vote at the absentee polling place.The locations and hours are below:

— St. George absentee voting: October 7 – November 4, 8:30 A.M. – 5 P.M. Monday – Friday. 201 Johnston St, St. George, SC.

–Summerville absentee voting: October 24 – November 4, 8:30 AM – 5 P.M. Monday – Friday. 520 N. Main St, Summerville, SC

— Both locations will be open on SATURDAY, October 29 from 8:30 A.M. – 12 P.M.

If you wish to receive a ballot by mail, please follow these instructions:

  1. Request an application either online at scvotes.org or by calling the Dorchester County Voter Registration office at 843-832-0132 or 843-563-0132. You may also email your request to vote@dorchestercounty.net or fax it to 843-832-0186. If you request an application online, you must be able to print it out or save it for printing later. The deadline for requesting an application to be mailed to you is below.
  2. Sign the application you either received online or by mail. Return the application as soon as possible no later than 2:00 p.m. 4 days prior to each election (see exact dates below).
  3. Receive your absentee ballot in the mail.
  4. Vote the ballot following ballot instructions and return it to our Voter Registration office by 7:00 p.m. Election Day.

Statewide General Election Absentee Dates: October 7 – November 4.

Deadline to request absentee application to be mailed: 5:00 p.m. on November 1, 2016

Deadline to return absentee application: 2:00 p.m. November 3, 2016

Deadline to return voted absentee ballot: 7:00 p.m. November 8, 2016 (Election Day)
