Public testing of voting machines for November Statewide General Election The voting machines that will be used for In-office Absentee Voting will be prepared beginning Monday, October 3, 2016 at 8:00 AM.  The voting machines that will be sent to the polls on Election Day will be prepared starting Monday, October 3, 2016 at 8 AM and continuing each day until completed, no later than Wednesday October 5, 2016.  All voting machine preparation will take place at the Dorchester County Elections Warehouse, 235 Deming Way, Summerville, SC 29483. As required by the SC Code of Laws, 7-13-1390, we will also test the Optical Ballot Scanner that will be used to tabulate paper ballots for this election.  We will do so at 10 AM on Monday, October 17, 2016.  This will take place at the Dorchester County Elections Warehouse, 235 Deming Way, Summerville, SC 29483. 2016 Statewide Primary Certification and Provisional Ballot Hearing

As required by Section 7-13-830 of the 1976 South Carolina Code of Laws, the County Board of Canvassers will hold a hearing to determine the validity of all provisional (challenged) ballots cast in the Tuesday, June 14, 2016 Statewide Primary Election. This provisional ballot hearing will be held on JUNE 16, 2016 at 10:00AM at the following location: County Council Chambers inside the Kenny Waggoner Building 201 Johnston Street St. George, SC 29477. If you are the challenged voter, you are entitled to be present at this hearing.  You are entitled to be represented by legal counsel and to present evidence in your behalf.  If your vote was challenged for not providing proper ID when registering to vote by mail, you must provide this ID prior to or at the provisional ballot hearing for your vote to be counted. You may determine the status of your ballot by following either of these steps:  1. Calling the Dorchester County Registrations & Elections office at 832-0132 or 563-0132     / OR / 2. Sending an email to Voter Registration at vote@dorchestercounty.net     / OR / 3. Visiting our website HERE. Notice of Emergency Polling Location Change

News Release: October 29, 2015 The Dorchester County Board of Elections and Voter Registration is notifying citizens of an emergency polling location change due to the historic flooding that Summerville experienced. This change will affect the November 3, 2015 Municipal Election for the Town of Summerville. Voters in the following precincts are affected: Sawmill Branch Newington Newington 2 Greenwave Tupperway Tupperway 2 Voters who are eligible to vote in the 2015 Town of Summerville election and live in one of the above precincts are to vote at the Dorchester School District Two Building located at 102 Greenwave Boulevard. Phil Jones Retires After 11 Years of Service

Phil Jones Retires After 11 Years of Service

Mr. Phil Jones was honored by the Dorchester County Council at their meeting May 4, 2015. Councilman George Bailey presented Mr. Jones with a resolution honoring him for his years of service. Mr. Jones is a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy. He served as an officer in the U.S. Marines for 21 years attaining the rank of Major and received multiple decorations during his career including the Purple Heart, Bronze Star with Combat “V”, Navy Commendation Medal and Combat Action Ribbon. He served as Marine Barracks Commanding Officer, Naval Weapons Station in Charleston as his final assignment. In the aftermath of Hurricane Hugo, Mr. Jones was asked by the Chairman of Dorchester County Council to establish the local Regional Emergency Operations Center for receipt and distribution of relief supplies and materials from across the U.S. and to coordinate volunteer efforts throughout the recovery operation. He has also served on numerous other boards and committees for Dorchester County and the Town of Summerville and helped establish the Charleston Regional Development Alliance.
